Forgive my ignorance, but how do winglets, especially split winglets, increase fuel, efficiency? If anything you have more surface area to slow the plane down. is it just the extra lift the winglets create?
Winglets reduce air turbulence generated by wingtips of planes, hence giving wings cleaner airflow and therefore increasing efficiency
