Good point, this made me curious so I looked it up. Apparently the first official procedure was in 1962 and they were FDA approved in 1976.
It's been about 9 months since I printed with this myself, and it's held up amazingly as a clothes washer water discharge strainer. Many many hot water washes later and it hasn't degraded at all.
Chiming in to add, I've had success printing Ryno on a smooth steel bed that I covered with blue painters tape. You have to be careful with not overlaying the tape too badly or you can get first layer issues. But it works well, even if the print is still tricky to remove.
