All of the evidence could’ve been equally well used to explain any number of personal struggles. There were many reasonable interpretations of the story. Now that the creator has posthumously anointed one interpretation as the “true” one, has anything really changed? For some people, I guess so, and for others, not so much.
You do realize saying that Madeline is indeed trans doesn’t change any of the other ways it impacts people and the struggle she goes to that people relate to right? It still is all of those things
I think it impacts some of the other ways, because people were seeing their own struggles in Maddy’s, which at the time seemed intentionally ambiguous and open to interpretation. She could’ve been struggling with any number of problems. That’s the advantage to ambiguity.

Chill. The U.S. isn't evil. They've done their share of war crimes and human rights violations, as much as any powerful country. They're still a democracy, and they're still not the worst global superpower. They're not an evil empire. I'm not saying this to excuse the bad things the US has done, but hyperbole and oversimplification won't help.
Technically in this context, all that matters is people think the US is evil.
