  1. This set looks great, good luck everyone!

  2. It’s mostly been stricter visa requirements. Permanent residence is possible for foreigners but very difficult so you pretty much need to be on work, spouse or student visa and you can only work full time on a work visa. They’ve only gotten more strict with Covid, I know people who have family here that haven’t been able to get back in the country since the start of the pandemic. Another big hit to foreigners was when they recently closed down the English training centers. I used to live in smaller cities and most foreigners I know worked at places like that and were forced to leave. I don’t know specifics but I’ve heard from friends that it is harder for South Africans to get in now as well. I’m pretty lucky, I’ve worked at good places that can sort all the visa stuff out, I was even able to make it back over in 2020 but I’ve heard horror stories from others and zero Covid has made it very difficult to go back to see my family. Haven’t been back home since 2020 when before Covid I would go back once or twice a year.

  3. Thanks for the insight, yeah it's been tough for foreigners outside of China too. I haven't been able to visit family in China since covid started.

  4. Yeah we are all waiting for an end to this. Most well off Chinese I’ve spoken to are fed up as well. Everyone was saying it would get better after the vaccines, then the Olympics, now the conference in October. They just reduced the quarantine time to get back in the country from two weeks to one week and are saying it could be as low as 3 days in the near future. I could really go home anytime I want, getting back in the country is the issue.

  5. I'm in the UK and the cost of flights it's another issue for us ) assuming they would even let me in to begin with). Last I checked, it would cost me £8k for a flight that would normally be £500. Crazy.

  6. I got annoyed with the feel of rubber dome keyboards and did some research on alternatives in 2010. Bought a filco majestouch and have been hooked ever since.

  7. Seems like I was luck to receive my keyboard a couple weeks before this got announced....

  8. I work at the lab next door and we will have processed your tumour. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

  9. Nice! I'd like to actually see what it looks like so might ask the consultant next time I see him haha.

  10. Are you getting any physio or rehab or do you just wait for the brain to ‘spring back’ as it were?

  11. It's mainly waiting and seeing at the moment. I had some sessions with the physio while at hospital and they'll send someone as a check up in a couple weeks time to see how things improve. I'll need to see my opticians as well just to see how my eyes are.

  12. If you PM me the address of the hospital you’ll be at, I’ll send you a card…..

  13. Thank you but there's no need. If you want to do something, feel free to donate some money to a local hospital or cancer charity of your choosing. Plenty of people out there that need the help.

  14. Lmao I used to be a cook, not McDonald's but a BBQ place.

  15. I work as an IT consultant, it's considerably easier then my part time job at a restaurant during my uni days. My highly specialised and technical job where I sit in front of a computer all day drinking tea cost my clients 325usd per hour of my time. The whole skilled and unskilled argument and how people want to compare themselves to others is pointless. Get paid what you're worth, and if someone is paid more then you for a job that you think is "beneath" you, then you're the one being underpaid.

  16. I was in A&E the other day and was quite surprised how many older people were there with covid.

  17. Game of thrones? How is this not near the top?

  18. Biscuits here are your cookies, and treats is just a catch all term for sugary snacks. On a side note, this workplace was at a police station so we did have the police dogs that come visit every now and again!

  19. Yeah I know. Aren't they a more general term that even includes savory crackers too?

  20. You know how sometimes there is a 15-20 second ad and after 5 seconds you have the option to skip it?

  21. I find that for double ads, the first one is unskippable but the second one can be skipped

  22. Stunt GP? Not sure about the customization, but I remember playing that and it had a bunch of Trackmania-like tracks.

  23. My company gave an update on how well they did last year, we met targets and profit was higher then last year and the year before even with covid and WFH etc. Our pay reviews kick in July though so lets see how those results affected our pay.....

  24. This is why I like my eufy doorbell, it can save video onto SD card if I really need it

  25. I quite like using the oyster card, I don't have to get my wallet or phone out at a busy station to get through the barriers. Although it's a low chance of it ever happening to me but I'd rather have my oyster card get lost/stolen then anything else.

  26. It's not bad, just boring and way out compared to your other option. Canary Wharf isn't exactly a vibe but is at least slightly nearer and better connected to stuff for people your age.

  27. To be fair it's a fairly cheap area though that is near to nicer places depending on what you want to do. North Finchley, Hampstead Heath, Golders Green, Brent Cross shopping centre (not great but it will be rebuilt at some point), Wembley, and easy access out to Hertfordshire.

  28. Some areas of Colindale like near the Grahame estate are very sketchy, and compared to the rest of the Barnet borough, Hendon is one of the sketchier areas. If you follow usual precautions, you’ll be fine.

  29. I don't think it's that bad tbh, I've lived in colindale for about 5 years now and although the Grahame estate can be "sketchy" if you're not used to walking through council estate, the rest of the area including Hendon is pretty fine for the most part.

  30. Honestly at that point I think we'll start seeing cases of Judges allowing "in certain circumstances" and forcing them to install some sort of tracking software on their routers.

  31. In the UK, they provide phones and computers with monitoring software. The second it detects a certain keyword or if they try to tamper with the software, it sends an alert and the relevant teams are notified. The downside to this though it's that it's not perfect and doesn't always work. Had a guy once they was looking at all sorts but no alerts went through. Then the other issue of having enough resources to monitor and police these people as the general public aren't aware exactly how many people there are that are put onto these types of arrangements. You can't not do it either because as people have said, it makes their integration back into society near impossible.
