Geschiedenisles in Nederland is sowieso vrij raar. Ik heb de eerste 3 jaar in VWO geschiedenis gehad (vanaf 2005) en in mijn herinnering hadden we het een jaar over de prehistorie en oudheid (Egypte, oude Grieken, Romeinen), een jaar over de 2e wereldoorlog, en een jaar over al het andere. Heel weinig middeleeuwen, verlichting, rennaissance, industriele revolutie. Vrijwel niets over de eerste wereldoorlog, en alleen het minimale over 1945-nu. Ik woon nu in het VK en merk dat er zo veel geschiedenis is die men hier kent en waar ik nooit over gehoord heb (ten minste op school niet), en niet alleen over de britten zelf.
Het is nu op VWO echt wel een stuk gestructureerder. Brugklas krijg je prehistorie tot einde vroege middeleeuwen; tweede krijg je late middeleeuwen tot Napoleon; derde krijg je industriële revolutie tot het heden en daarna neem je dezelfde route maar ga je er een stuk dieper op de stof in.
