Springing people from the poverty trap. Research suggests poverty is not principally the product of people’s capabilities or attitudes. Rather, the very poor are usually mired in a poverty trap, in which an initial lack of resources prevents them from improving their circumstances

But, they do such a great job of making sure I get penalized if I use the word bitch!
I highly doubt you got in trouble for saying bitch on twitter
The 90s were just as awful as any other time if you were in the wrong demographic.
There's always someone who's having an awful time. In any decade, so....
Not just Facebook. Looks at this headline from CNBC
I didn't even read the headline, just the url
Guy doesn't have much to do does he
I'm sure it was placed based on its resting diameter and not it's in-use diameter.
Be that as it may, they're still continuing to operate it for some reason I can't even begin to understand...
You can't fire someone whose not an employee.
The constant apologizing for the fuck ups of Obama in this sub is repulsive
That’s not true. If you don’t believe in scientific theories (the highest level explanation in science with lots and lots of evidence you can observe constantly) then there’s no reason to believe any of this is real, or you’re real, either.
What difference does it make whether it's real or not? Your experience is all you have, so try to enjoy it before it's gone. Whether you're stuck in a simulation, or stuck in a dream, or stuck in reality, the predicament is more or less the same. You're locked into your perception and anything outside of it is unknowable. Make the most of it.
Totally. That actually makes me feel better.
Yet ironically he still encourages the use of the (garbage) imperial system
I don't think there's anything wrong with the imperial system. Just another way of expressing measurements
Except that it’s a jumbled mess of weird nonsensical measurings following no good structure making calculating things on the fly harder than they need to be
Conversions are a little cleaner with the metric system, no doubt. But I just don't think it's as big of a deal as some people make it out to be.
My English is not good enough for this.
Neither is the author's
Yea but it’s only 3,999,940 after health insurance
You guys get health insurance?
What the hell was the purpose of the guy in the bike helmet
I was expecting him to flip out the chart function and completely wreck everybody with the devastation of having their minds blown all over the elevator walls.
Seriously. When he said "ye of little faith," I genuinely thought he was about to do something mind blowing with it.
Ironic, because their animal fries look like a fucking abortion
Once you get a five guys burger you've got about 5 min to eat it before it turns into protein paste. It's why they don't do delivery at all. It's good though.
I know right? Talk about false equivalence. On one hand we talk about a person who succeeds with a lot of luck and help from others, but won't acknowledge it, and on the other, someone who was born literally in the lap of luxury and doesn't acknowledge their luck. It's the lack of acknowledgement that we're criticising on both cases.
I would argue that a person who has a better start has a greater responsibility to use their advantages to improve the world for others.
I'll agree with you there. If only they would...
Funny ... but the "over 30,000 feet" part is bugging me. What about "We're passing through 30,000 feet"

I’ll take things that didn’t happen for 300
The other guy already took it for 1000
What do you think it means?
What do I think it means?
Gross (The intended message, I mean)
If you are religious, praying for your children's health, safety, well-being is considered a gift.
That's a stretch
I just cruised through these comments and I’m surprised that nobody else has mentioned the sexism. I guess this means it’s still as unconscious for you (plural) as it was for him. I don’t think he would have considered himself backward in this way either.
Why do all Conservative rags and opinion pieces choose to ignore the fact that the Senate - a central part of 'being in control' is actually a 50/50 split. More so, when you have two Senators (Manchin & Sinema) who are Democrats in name only. When you need more than a simple majority for most major legislation, that is not "in control".
Can someone send a link to The Guardian's editorial board about what constitutes control in US politics?
The Guardian is trash

Teachers in public schools are representatives of the state. Those are government employees. When it comes to basic mathematics, civics, history, science, that kind of stuff no problem. When they start teaching kids that they have less of a shot at being successful because of the color of their skin, or that a child should feel guilty for the color of theirs, or if at any time a teacher tells a kid not to tell their parents what they're learning in school. Those are some red flags.
