TIL Ken Livingstone was the last leader of the Greater London Council, which was abolished in 1986. He was then elected mayor of London in 2000, which included effectively the same job. He began his victory speech with "As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted 14 years ago..."

Can't stop seeing stars

  1. Apparently having 17 US flags up at his send-off ceremony was a nod to Q. (17th letter of the alphabet)

  2. The fact that these actions were being discussed on Facebook in these groups before Trump made his speech and called for a March to the Capitol points not only to the riot/occupation being planned but also to collusion between Trump and these groups.

  3. "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,"

  4. Trump said “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol”, how did he know? Had the march been officially announced before his rally and speech anywhere other than on private social media groups?

  5. Great documentary. Definitely shows how much of an ass hole he is though. Horrible to his children.

  6. I think “horrible” is Baker’s default mode, which is almost permanently engaged.

  7. Yeah definitely seemed that way except when he was drumming with the jazz guys.

  8. Alpha predator that eats great white sharks.

  9. Also sometimes termed “Killer Whale” as it’s the only whale that kills and eats other whales.

  10. Jesus, the energy required to launch 8 tons from water to that height is phenomenal.

  11. To be fair it's still prettty much fuck all. Doubt that 170bn saw any light in any form that matters to anyone else, and those 2500 finance folk would've paid the absolute minimum pennies of tax possible (that came, probably, from the industries supporting them).

  12. £150 billion is fuck all? Try telling that to the NHS or someone involved in funding of state education. Plum.

  13. I wasn’t commenting on the article (which I read completely) I was commenting on the post suggesting that £150 billion was “fuck all”. I realise that sum isn’t leaving the economy, but the associated taxes and jobs are and they aren’t “fuck all” either. So calm down and holster your insult gun, there’s no need for petty slurs to make a point.

  14. Trypophobia alert! Yikes, I’d want to wear a legging or huge sock over than monstrosity.

  15. What a family! Actual reality TV “The Conway of Life”.

  16. Yeah the cloud seeding is a big one, I guess because it gave the king a divine power of making it rain, literally.

  17. I’ve seen this very close to home - my wife. She’s gone from being an ardent royalist, and being largely unaware of politics, to being fiercely anti-royal and quite politically aware.

  18. This describes my gf to a T. Now when I meet new Thai people, it's almost a given that you can speak freely about how much the king is a dick. That was unthinkable when Rama IX was alive.

  19. Yep, even in the early days of X there was still silence despite the fact that many ((most?) Thais had deep reservations about him. Once the protests kicked off however it was like opening a pressure valve - they all let out their real thoughts and feelings and suddenly every topic related to the royals was up for discussion. To my surprise even the much loved IX is now being criticised, most particularly in relation to the death of his brother ....

  20. So up until he pardoned the grifter who stole this geezer’s money, he never questioned Trump’s honesty? Sheesus..... 🙄

  21. His underpants? Read up on his career yourself, I’m not here to do your homework for you.

  22. Boris took credit for a lot of it, like the eBikes.

  23. Johnson taking credit for someone else’s idea? What a surprise!

  24. Its partly confirmation bias. When long-standing beliefs are challenged by progressive ideas, so they seek to protect self image by coming to more convenient but incorrect conclusions.

  25. I’d agree. They tend to reject anything - including well established facts -that doesn’t align with their whole worldview, as if any chink in that edifice will somehow invalidate the whole thing (and their own self image).

  26. How much do you want to bet it was a sting operation the whole time where agencies try to coerce (radicalize) low IQ people into doing dumb shit which may never have even happened in the first place if the agency wasn't performing a sting operation.

  27. Every word. As the article states, prior to him speaking with the OCE, he "...allegedly began researching and consuming online propaganda promoting jihadists and their violent ideology. He also allegedly expressed his support for the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham ("ISIS") and jihad on social media."

  28. Would Inuit/Eskimos count here? I don’t think they cultivate any crops and subsist almost entirely on seal, whale and fish and a small amounts of gathered plants when the season permits.

  29. While simultaneously blaming losing the Senate on McConnell for not giving them $2k.

  30. Yep, I think the hypocrisy and blame shifting of the Republicans while in opposition will outdo their hypocrisy and blame shifting while they were in power - quite a feat.

  31. Um, yeah he undid everything Obama did. Ran our capital like the Mob runs business. Dirty, underhanded low life.

  32. The mob are way more organised, disciplined and consistent than Trump ever was....

  33. Accurate. I’m joining a ship to work off Ivory Coast in a couple of days and hoping for calm seas, when it’s like the clip shown here it’s fucking annoying - can’t get comfortable, everything is difficult, and worst if all, can’t sleep.

  34. Rabies virus is fatal in all species. Some might live long enough to transmit it, but the disease kills the host. The reason it spreads is because some animals live from the infecting bite or attack, and then become enraged and bite another animal.

  35. Yes, I know rabies is, the image of the insane dog frothing at the mouth was used in the UK to publicise the risks of secretly smuggling pet dogs on holiday to France.

  36. As far as I know, no species that becomes infected with the rabies virus is immune. There's some evidence that some humans have developed perhaps a natural vaccination of a sort by being exposed relatively non-infectious amounts of virions such as fur trappers or people living near vampire bat colonies. However, this evidence is really slim.

  37. You’ve stirred a memory there - I recall reading something about the fur trapper thing years and years ago....

  38. White Wedding was good for the first 2 plays.

  39. Billy Idol is a fucking cock, I can’t listen to anything he’s done without visualising his faux-sneer and posturing.

  40. Exactly, the basket case of the 1980s. It’s a shame because that decade had so many amazing artists to choose from - Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark... then there’s just Billy fucking Idol

  41. Yep the 80’s was a golden age of music. I appreciate it now more than I did then when I was actually more into 60’s psychedelia and early 70’s rock. But looking back on it now - especially in comparison to a lot of the rubbish coming out today - I really appreciate it.

  42. You’re quite right. I didn’t see it from that perspective. I was looking at it from his point of view.

  43. As I’ve posted earlier elsewhere, I think trains of thought are beyond many of the MAGA crew. They have single carriages, but they’re unconnected or they connect diesel and electric together....
