Sick, but manager won’t let me call out. Called the restaurant 3 times, texted her personal cell, hostess even told her that I’m trying to get ahold of her, but no response.
You called in. It's not your problem she isn't there. You told the hostess. Calling in does not require you to speak to a manager. I appreciate when people text me and let me know what's going on, but they don't need to speak to me to call in. If you are sick, you are sick.
I like the " I'm sorry to be so graphic, but I'm trapped on the toilet with a vomit bucket. The only place I'm going is the floor today" phrase myself.
No, it’s not, lol. I tell my people that if you are able to get your shift covered, thank you! Saves me a lot of work. Most of them try to get it covered out of respect and caring about the restaurant (they are all on a group chat, so it’s easy). I would NEVER expect or want anyone to work sick! Sick is sick, bottom line. If it becomes a habit (or out for a few days), then we ask for documentation. Nobody should have to pay to go to a doctor because they have something that requires them to be off for a shift or two. We all catch a cold every once in a while.
It is the responsibility of the server to get their shift covered if they are scheduled for the shift and need the night off for some reason or another. It is the manager's responsibility to get the shift covered if the server or other employee is sick. It is a health code violation for a server to come in sick. So no, it is not their responsibility to get the shift covered.
I don't understand why I got down voted. I've never worked somewhere that the shift is just left open. There's so much understaffed that there's not enough to schedule extra.
Say the magic words. Explosive diarrhea.
While that is magical im pretty sure covid is the magic words these days, that still works right?
You tried. Stay home

I’m not requesting off, I’m informing you I won’t be in.
Get a doctors note. If they fire you when you have a note saying you are legitimately sick, they're in trouble I'm pretty sure.

Sounds like you have only 2 options, work or don't and lose your job. Manager is pissed already and probably hoping you don't show so she can can you
If I wasn’t too sick, I’d go in and cough then tell every customer “sorry, I’m sick but they made me come in.”
Call the health department and tell them what's up. Do everything by text message.
Quit that shitty job now
Just don’t turn up.
That sounds like their problem now.
Sounds like you made contact to me
Ugh...Covid’s not over... if you are sick you are sick.
Isn't it your responsibility to get your shift covered?

Doesn't matter. Sick comes before work. Also every restaurant works differently. My restaurant doesn't require that.
I mean yeah but If im sick and can’t cover then maybe a manager should as me being there is a health code violation and could result in lawsuit

Isn’t that what managers get paid for? To make sure the restaurant is staffed enough even if people call out.
Found the manager
No it’s actually not !
Satire.

Go to work anyway but lick everything as revenge. Jk
