2014 GLI Engine Bricked...Golf R Engine Swap?

  1. I believe the engine is the same, the EA888 gen3. The differences are the is32 turbo, piston rings, head gasket, and maybe some other reinforcement stuff. The turbo might be a tight fit along the firewall, but I'm sure it's doable. And since companies like APR already have a tune for that configuration I'm sure it wouldn't be much of a problem for you.

  2. Use the labor and parts costs for a down payment on a new car. Not worth the headache. Plus, power is useless with that drive train.

  3. I would think the DSG would handle the extra power fine, especially with a software upgrade/APR tune.

  4. ~$1000 extra for the R engine, and after a $500 APR tune you end up with ~+140 horsepower over the GTI. Seems like the ROI is great, as long as it’s doable.
